I know quite a few professionals who can wear whatever the heck they want to work. The two coming to mind immediately are a married couple, one's a physical therapist at a local orthopedic doctor's office. The other is a marketing agent for a company in Charlotte.

The people I know who make serious money in cybersecurity, wear suits.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.

And that's fine. I'm pro-uniform for an entirely different set of reasons (don't particularly agree with the preparing you for adult life argument at all) but I do see their point. Very, very few places of business will allow you to express your individuality at work.

Maybe, vaguely, once.

I found it in TET: Everybody that matters likes this title. Not the post I can most easily recall. Whatever.

I had to return my keycard after my internship ended. Apparently the North Carolina Research Campus is top secret to non-employees.

We all have them. But my part of the college is locked for some reason, only authorised people can go in

Cuz you know, the terrorists will come into the arts department of an edge of town college in a place in the middle of nowhere that's of no significance whatsoever

Or something

Burglars, pedophiles and general other people that shouldn't be in there, it's standard safety for schools these days. Newish building, I'd wager.

It's actually, at least the part I'm in, the oldest part, it's just above the main entrance.

I'd have thought that they would, if anywhere, put the stuff in the engineering departments. Heavy machinery and all

The U.S. Military also seems to disagree with you.

I trust their defining factors of adulthood more so than yours.

Professional dress codes, dearie. College student is not a profession. The employed wear uniforms.

The only uniform in my field would pertain to not putting oneself in danger. So no loose clothing, no jewelry, and wear the steel toes. Otherwise, it depends on the company on anything aesthetic that doesn't protect the worker from harm.
