As an American wish Scottish ancestry, I don't notice how Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian sound alike by Finnish doesn't. I just know that in English - at least in America, though my friends in the UK and Canada assure me the same meaning is held there - the term Scandinavia refers to Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland.

Well, this one actually happens to be a pet peeve of mine, but it's even generally speaking very tiring seeing people putting in so little effort they don't even bother to use the correct terminology.

But, living in southern America, I use the term meaning it as any southern American would. I don't encounter Swedes or Finns when walking down the road in western North Carolina, so I don't use the term "Scandinavia" as a Swede or a Finn would, I use the term "Scandinavia" as a western North Carolinian would, which represents five countries instead of three.

It's all a matter of where one lives, I suppose. While we may not be accurate or correct by Swedish or Finnish standards, my terminology is correct by Southern U.S. standards, which is where I live. If I included Finland and Iceland in as Scandinavian on a geography exam, I'd be marked correct, and that's good enough for me to get by in life.

Weird pet-peeve. But I'm of a very different sorts than people with such obligations. I find them meaningless and exhausting. As far as the "correct" terminology, that's dubious at best if we're going by the links posted already. Going by your signature, it makes more sense why you see an issue with this. The fact of the matter is, just as is the case with me, you're not going to find many people who really care. It's long been included in Scandinavia, or associated in it as "Fennoscandia" or Finno-Scandinavia, for varying reasons, so unless the world suddenly decides that Finland isn't apart of Scandinavia, it's not worth the exhausting frustration.
