Any map I've ever seen of Scandinavia marks five nations within Scandinavia: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and Iceland.
Besides, this official authority on the matter also declares all five aforementioned nations as Scandinavia

The extended usage in English: Iceland and the Faroe Islands on account of their populations being largely descended from Scandinavians, the Åland Islands for its ethnic Swedish population, Finland on account of its historical association with Sweden and its Swedish minority.

I hate that comic so very very much.
Also, Scandinavia is a geographic region based on shared cultural heritage. Notice how Swedish, Danish and Norwegian sound similar and Finnish doesn't at all?

I just know that in English - at least in America, though my friends in the UK and Canada assure me the same meaning is held there - the term Scandinavia refers to Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Iceland.

The extended use is useless though, since it's inaccurate.

Living in America, the extended use is the only usage I have ever heard until now, thus I will keep using it as such. Allows for more land to be lumped into one area of Europe. My friends know exactly what I mean when I say Scandinavia, or Britain, or the Baltics, or the Balkans, etc.

Notice how none of those live here? They might not be perfect authorities to draw on about it.

That area you are referring to has a common name. The Nordic Countries.

Well, this one actually happens to be a pet peeve of mine, but it's even generally speaking very tiring seeing people putting in so little effort they don't even bother to use the correct terminology.
