Hehe, reminds me of speaking French with Portuguese people. It works wonders, they speak slow and clear.

It had to be explained to me that that meant ''we have to hurry''.

You would have problems speaking Dutch.
I tend to speak with a lot of idioms. Heck, when Herrebrugh and me feel like it, we start translating them, for hilarious results. You might have seen 1 or 2. They don't make sense

More than likely. Spanish has idioms too but the plus there is is that I grew up with them. On a different language, however... hilarity ensues. I can imagine that I would have the same hilarious issues with your language.

I don't know if Arkansas has quite the flavor that you get growing up in Georgia, though, so I could probably school you some more.

You don't really do phrases. What happened was, we would just learn a block of stuff at once. Like, we would learn everything about places in town but outside of saying "I'm off to the cinema today" it made it impossible to conduct a proper conversation

We would always start with word memorization (of what I recall) and then verb tenses. Finally it was grammar and usage in a sentence. Music and watching movies helped me a lot. Also, reading. If I didn't know a word, dictionary to the rescue. I learned a lot that way, believe it or not.

I'm still hoping I can learn another language, I just haven't got round to starting

CVT Temp wrote:I mean, we can actually create a mathematical definition for evolution in terms of the evolutionary algorithm and then write code to deal with abstract instances of evolution, which basically equates to mathematical proof that evolution works. All that remains is to show that biological systems replicate in such a way as to satisfy the minimal criteria required for evolution to apply to them, something which has already been adequately shown time and again. At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

Darth Vader: Ontsnappen is onmogelijk!
He vertelde me dat jij hem hebt gedood!
Vader: Nee, ik ben je vader.
Luke: [geschokt] Nee. Nee! Dat is niet waar! Dat is onmogelijk!
Vader: Doorzoek je innerlijke gevoelens; je weet dat het waar is!
Luke: NEEEEEEE! NEEEEEEEE!!!
Vader: Luke, jij kunt de Keizer vernietigen. He heeft dit voorzien. Het is je lotsbestemming! Sluit je bij me aan, en gezamenlijk kunnen we over de galaxie heersen als vader en zoon! Kom met me mee. Het is de enige weg.
