I guess I should've added that due to the root differences, when it comes to Spain, yes, English is better often better understood in an English speaking country. At least in my experience. And that's not to say that a Spanish speaking person can't understand the language just from the classroom, but certain nuances of it are better grasped when you go to an English speaking country.

Hehe, reminds me of speaking French with Portuguese people. It works wonders, they speak slow and clear.

And don't forget that the average Dutch citizen gets exposed to heavy doses of British and American movies and television series, all subtitled. We tend to hear a lot of English in comparison to the people in countries where everything is dubbed in order to keep those scary foreign languages away from the innocent, pure children.

On similar vein, there was earlier today on Finnish part of Tumblr discussion on "Can you imagine how cringey hollywood movies would be, if they would be dubbed in Finnish". Earlier I posted here a one example someone forgeried to make a point.
I wonder if this sentiment is more universal.

On the very, very down side, I also have no time to get any sleep before work.
