I've only ever seen them happen in popular 80s and 90s American comedic high school television shows, but when you put somebody's head in the toilet and flush said toilet.
Never seen it happen in reality.

Oh, that. Yeah, I've seen those in American 1980s movies.Idzequitch wrote:It's a school prank where you put someone's head in the toilet and flush it. I wasn't being serious, obviously.
No, it's alright, it's just that I am not American so the term was a tad confusing. I have seen the thing happen in movies but I had no idea that was one of the names it went by.Stagnant Axon Terminal wrote:When you put someone's head in the toilet, and flush.
Ok, thanks. I had never heard the term before.

You speak such good English that it's easy for me to forget that it's not your native tongue. Your English is better than some native Americans, I daresay.

I thank my tutors for hammeri- I mean, teaching me so well. >.> Yes, that.
I will say, though, that English is, IMO, a language you only truly comprehend once you move to an English speaking country and have to use it regularly. The sanitized versions you learn in the classroom do not prepare you as well for the real thing.

I beg your pardon?
Would you believe that I've never been to an English speaking country?

That will do.
Regardless, in general you are correct, that a language is best learned outside the classroom. The classroom is just to get some basics going, and help with issues, learning a language is best with other people, not from a book
But you don't necessarily have to be in a native speaker's country for that. English, especially, works well as a lingua franca in many parts of the world, eg. Scandinavia.

All that remains is to show that biological systems replicate in such a way as to satisfy the minimal criteria required for evolution to apply to them, something which has already been adequately shown time and again. At this point, we've pretty much proven that not only can evolution happen, it pretty much must happen since it's basically impossible to prevent it from happening.

I guess I should've added that due to the root differences, when it comes to Spain, yes, English is better often better understood in an English speaking country. At least in my experience. And that's not to say that a Spanish speaking person can't understand the language just from the classroom, but certain nuances of it are better grasped when you go to an English speaking country.

And don't forget that the average Dutch citizen gets exposed to heavy doses of British and American movies and television series, all subtitled. We tend to hear a lot of English in comparison to the people in countries where everything is dubbed in order to keep those scary foreign languages away from the innocent, pure children.
