Does "classification" do anything?

Does classification such as "Kingdom", "Empire", "Colony" etc. actually affect any aspect of your nation other then the title?

It's purely for roleplaying purposes, so no it doesn't have any effect on your nation's "stats".

Which is why you can use a custom classification when certain prerequisites are met. Don't recall which ones those are but I think they involve having a certain population number and getting a particular issue. Could be wrong, though.

If you have certain words in your title (which are available once you hit 500 million citizens), you can get certain Easter Egg issues. That's the only practical thing it changes.

Alright because it lets me change it in options however leaving it blank is not an option. Since Empire is in my nations name it seems totally redundant.

Yeah, you can't leave it blank. But at 500 million citizens you can edit it to whatever you want.
