That last part might not be exactly their fault, jobs for young people are scarce nowadays in some parts of Europe (no idea if Italy is a part of that, I know Spain is).

Italy is rather a mess for people below age 40. Especially for those without a superior education - although there's quite a lot of univerisity graduates who can't find a job anyway.

To be frank, I personally have never had a big interest in mathematics. I mean, it kind of runs in the family to be good at it - or any academic-related thing, really, but I'm more interested in language and writing and history.
