We had some furriers in Austria and Germany in the family, it's possible that our products were worn by the German aristocracy. *nod*

Yeah. My English ancestors that came to Virginia after the Civil War? Some of the largest slave-holding families in the commonwealth. *sighs*
Which actually reminds me: One was the colonel in the militia (having been a colonel in the Cavalier Army before, you know, losing), and helped put down Bacon's Rebellion, which you might have heard of. Nathaniel Bacon even named him in his oath, noting his group's grievances against the government.

Yes, I'm mostly English. First ancestor that comes to mind came from... Gloucestershire, in 1632. Though I did have a couple more who arrived in 1607 - we know less about them.
Which, come to think of it, means I probably have cannibals in my ancestry, considering they survived.

Should the English start specifying whether their earliest ancestors on the isles were Celts, Romans, Angles, Saxons, Norsemen, Normans, ... ?
America has been settled for many generations, it's been over 200 years since it's independence was declared, and America has it's own distinct culture(s) that children born there are raised into and immigrants are expected to assimilate into. At this point, people can most definitely say that they have "American" ancestors.

... Why/how do you know so much about your ancestry?
