First of all, it's kind of surprising that Trump or Baghdadi didn't win, this does make you wonder whether the trolls actually voted for her? Maybe. It wouldn't be too surprising to see snarky internet users vote for her in reference to the recent, less enthusiastic, mood on her administration. But the fact that Time hasn't simply ignored her as they do with troll options, probably means they don't consider her a troll option, and I agree. Merkel has been a phenomenal chancellor.
What do you think? Does she deserve this accolade?

And it simply isn't moral to refuse migrants fleeing a warzone on the basis that they won't integrate.
Ignoring the fact that many of the supposed refugees aren't really refugees at all, it stems further than that. Germany has taken the majority of refugees, whereas other non European nations have just turned a blind eye. Why must Germany be responsible? Why can't culturally and religiously similar nations take more?
The list goes on and on.

Times Person of the year does not pretend to determine good or bad. They simply select the person who made significant news.

Not really, anymore. After the Ayatollah was chosen back in IIRC '78, they decided to not do anyone the west may dislike to boost sales.

2007 Time Person of the Year: Vladimir Putin.
Even before the Ayatollah, it was by and large people who had done positive or mixed things for the world. The award has never been a political statement.
