He needs to press it though, because it's a weak, non-inheritable one.

Nope, all he needs is martial law and Fox News will say it's for the greater good.

There's no law against running on a fascist platform, and frankly the White House statement just amounts to a badge of pride and endorsement for The Donald and his supporters. To them, it's a sign that they're pissing off the right people.

The more the media and political establishment rail against Trump, the better he does in the polls. It's amazing that they still don't understand the dynamics of the situation. If they really wanted to sink his campaign, they would stop covering him and his outrageous statements.

Trump could suspend the constitution and declare himself dictator for life and I bet Fox News would say it is necessary for "national security".

It will take far more than this to end the establishment, though this could be very useful for pressuring them into opening up the political process so as to be able to distance themselves from problematic individuals.

For anyone wondering, I joined this website during my edgy teenage years. I made a lot of dumb, awkward posts, flip-flopped between various extreme ideologies, and just generally embarrassed myself. I denounce a sizable amount of my past posts. I am no longer active on NationStates and this nation/account is no longer used.

I agree, though I am not sure reform would work at this point. The entire system needs to be scrapped and completely rebuilt from the ground up.

Sure, but in American political discourse "libertarian" refers to a combined economic and social libertarianism. A self described "Democratic Socialist" is not likely to appeal to that demographic.

The media and the pundit class are really in denial about the level of dissatisfaction that is sweeping the electorate; the fact that a growing number of Americans resent them and hate everything they represent is just incomprehensible to them.

The media doesn't give a shit about that. All they care about is making money, and airing any news about Trump makes them money because Trump is so popular. It's a vicious cycle that needs to be broken.

As long as the media continues to make money off of these stories, they don't give a shit what the electorate thinks.

If you are a libertarian, I'm not sure how he appeals to you; aside from his policies on drugs and guns, he wants to otherwise increase federal spending and taxes on the rich. That goes against everything most libertarians stand for. His foreign policy is okay; better than the Hawkish Clinton, but nothing like the staunchly anti-war policies of a Ron Paul. Basically Sanders is a Cold War Democrat.

Sure, if they can stomach voting for one of the major parties, he's the only logical choice. I'll vote for him in the primaries before voting for some third party candidate when he inevitably loses to Clinton.

No, American political discourse has incorrectly used the term "libertarian" to describe classical liberals at best and neo-feudalists at worst. Libertarians, as the term originally applies, are radical anti-capitalists and anti-statists, and served primarily as a counterpart to what was viewed as authoritarian tendencies in Marxism by the socialist community. Democratic socialism isn't simply compatible with libertarianism, it's an integral part of it. Of course, I wouldn't actually call a social democrat like Sanders a democratic socialist, but he's decent enough to make some valid protest votes to shake up the Democratic establishment a bit.
