While I disagree strongly with Camicon's previous post, I broadly agree with this one (sans the claim that there is a 'complete' lack of regulations which is certainly untrue). The 2nd amendment appears to be an enormous obstacle to any gun control, by making it essentially a priori 'wrong' or unlawful at a fundamental level to restrict gun rights. I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, but if you're of the opinion that there is insufficient gun control in the US you can't simply ignore this elephant in the room.

A responsible gun culture does exist in Switzerland, but it is entirely different than the one in the US. The Swiss view gun ownership as a civic duty and as a tool of homeland defense from invading armies. Americans use guns as a defense against other Americans. The mentality is completely different.
