They probably shouldn't be rolled out universally, as evidence is emerging that they also cause accidents.

there's no reason to wait until people start getting unnecessarily hurt or killed in drunk driver accidents

i prefer a preemptive approach

How about education? Bonuses to people who volunteer to be designated drivers (e.g. free food or soft drinks at an establishment)? Government funding of programs where people drive your car home for you if you failed to plan ahead? Road blocks to catch anyone who should not be on the road before they get to a highway?

Honestly the government funding of drive home programs would probably be cheaper AND more effective when it comes to drunk driving.

Honestly, you could hire a couple people in every small town in America easily enough.

With the wrong skin color especially.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Yeah, I couldn't think of the name for these programs in general. There was one in the last city I lived in in Canada called "Keys Please". The idea was that if you drove your car to an establishment and had more than you thought you would, they would bring two people to pick you up. One would drive you home in your car while the other would follow in another car and drive the other person to the next location.

A bit like a taxi service, except that if you throw up in the car, you're going to be stuck cleaning it up in the morning. (Well, plus you don't have to go retrieve your car the next day.)

It seems like a good solution in areas where public transportation isn't a good option or where commuting is common.

I knew this was an infected Mushroom thread simply by the title.

Now, this seems nice and all but um....who is paying for all of this? Do you have any idea how much this will drive up the price of cars? People, particularly those on low income, will not be able to afford the extra cost of owning something equipped with this system. The public transport system in the US could not handle it, especially in rural areas out west and down south where it is essentially nonexistent. So then we would have to spend EVEN MORE money, that we don't have, on public transport into areas populated by small numbers of people. Believe it or not, there are areas where dial up internet is still the only option because internet companies will no pay to run lines to pockets of 15 people in the wilderness (I live in one). I doubt the government will do so for public transportation services and that would leave poorer families in the middle of nowhere without transportation. The impact on the economy and people's lives would be too grate.
