tbh, I didn't think most of the sentiment here had been pro-Turkey (its mixed at best), and certainly not supportive of what they do over Greece.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGlJFoIBKQw (I can't speak Russian though, so I'm trusting someone's translation in Reddit) the helicopter got shot at and was forced to land. One Russian Marine was killed during this, but the rest of the crew were evacuated by the 2nd helicopter. The TOW shot happened later, and simply blew up the abandoned helicopter.

That corroborates Lebanon Daily Star reporting that "all crew were evacuated", allowing for confusion over use of an AT weapon and one dead personnel.

It was soviet-era, but still.

That really isn't a good example. The Russia fighter here just clipped Turkish airspace. The Korean plane flew for a long time through Soviet airspace while being tailed by fighter jets, and was heading right for Vladivostok.

I openly laughed at the Greek military efforts on their side of the buffer zone in Nicosia. If Turkey wanted to they'd have the city within hours.
Let's not forget however the increase in Russian activity and aggression in its deployment of aircraft we saw earlier this year, including the "buzzing" of naval vessels.

The pilots bailed out over Syria; that doesn't sound like Turkish air space to me.

I hear they were killed as they parachuted down.

Now Turkey wants to mobilize NATO against Russia. For what? Seriously?

The missile seems to have reached them after they had entered Syrian airspace.

And no, it's just a meeting to discuss what happened. I mean, most likely there'll be a "While tragic, this shows why Russia needs to respect national airspace" etc etc. But that's pretty much a given, considering recent tensions between NATO and Russia.

Depending on who you listen to the Russian jet was in for long enough to receive multiple warnings. It is also an armed warplane.

It crashed 4 km away from the boarder, and was hit 1 km away from the boarder. Otherwise known as about 3 seconds of flying. The mapping provided by turkey clearly shows a violation of their airspace. The question is how much truth Turkey is giving out, which we have to wait and see on.

And was a civilian airliner. Kamensky even didn't want to shoot it down until it was positively identified. Kornukov overruled that, and the pilot that shot it down even got close enough to determine that it was a Boeing civilian airliner. Which he of course failed to mention. And it's not like they flew over the restricted airspace on purpose.

It wasn't even the first time.

Apparently Russia is ordering the Guided Missile Cruiser Moskva to the Syrian coast near Latakia, with orders to "provide additional Air defense coverage". Also, from now on bombers are going to be escorted by fighter jets. Source is the Russian Ministry of Defense's statement, though since I can't speak Russian I have to trust someone's translation of it. Quick google search comes up with a Russia Today article, though.

Didn't Russia also deploy some advanced anti-aircraft systems to Syria, too? I wonder when a Turkish Jet gets downed for violating Syrian airspace...

Yeah, that would be the Pantsir-S1, but its a SHORAD system and is more likely to be used against helicopters or low-flying aircraft within ranges of 20 km.

I hope Turkey doesn't plan on conducting any air sorties into Syria, or stray too close to the border. I'm sure Russia will only be too happy to defend the sovereignty of Syrian airspace on behalf of Assad, and Turkey will have zero room to complain about getting planes shot down for brief or minor violations.

I hope Erdogan isn't dumb enough to think he can invoke NATO if Turkey is clearly at fault.

Putin just gave a speech and he suggested the Kurds in Turkey might need Russian protection.

There was no ISIS presence along that border area, but there were Turkmen there, Erdogan said. So anyone who bombs that area attacks "our brothers and sisters -- Turkmen," Erdogan said in Ankara.

Russias been bombing the Turkmen supposedly.
