Then why do you not question Assad's improbable 88.7% of the vote? You are a selective cynic. You are only cynical of certain a things. Maybe be a little more cynical about Assad and Putin.

The fact that Turkey ran to NATO tells me that NATO has been silently encouraging Turkey to do this.
You can't convince me Turkey would not handle Russian aircraft carefully if they cared about Russian relations. Turkey cannot bite the Russian hand unless it has another hand to feed it.

NATO is obsolete. It wants to show the world it still has a purpose. How? It pulls off shit like this.

I really wish pro-Russian bullshitters on the interneto could be intellectually honest at least ONCE.

Nobody gives a shite about the fact that Russia perceives its "near abroad" as its zone of interest. It is not a fucking zone of interest. Ukraine is a sovereign country that belongs to the Ukrainian people, and the fact that Russia has been an imperialist cunt for centuries DOES NOT justify continued being an imperialist cunt.

NATO is not obsolete. It is a measure to prevent Russia from invading its neighbors on bullshit pretexts. Like in Ukraine.

Russia's entire strategy against NATO is to drop a nuke defensively and hope we back away because they know they would lose. And terribly.

They are blockading Crimea and have let terrorists blow up power lines. Russian hospitals on the peninsula can barely function. They will get smacked if this continues.

Ukraine has no duty to subsidize or support Crimea. They do not have to provide power or water.

Cuba cut off water and electricity to GITMO.

Well, not soon enough if Ukraine cuts them off now. And Ukraine should have done so already.

Russia has talked about building a power and water connection but has not actually done anything.

But Russian failures are not Ukraine's problem.

Im happy my country put the Russians back in place with showing NATO members are not afraid of shooting down planes that are violating NATO borders.
Russians have gotten away with violating borders far too long. I live in Norway and 2 times a year, we can read about a Russian plane flying far inside Norway just to provoke. NATO members shouldn't accept this kind of show of power from Russians. No matter how much you hate muslims and turks, you have to see that we did the right thing with showing them that NATO isn't afraid of Russia. They have violated sovreign nations borders for too long (see: Ukraine, Just now Turkey, several times into Norway and Sweden, Finland and the list goes on)

The "West" is not a monolithic entity. But yeah people have interest in discrediting him.

Still his 88.7% is clearly total bullshit.

Only 88,7%? He learned from his master, manlet Pootin - 89,9%
>90% is only for little Kim ;)

But I can already Imagine how voting papers looked like:
Do you agree with your leader yes/no
Result:
Blank papers 21,3%
Yes votes 88,7%
No votes are not counted because of a invalid cross on the box for no.

Stop the hyperbole. Russia cannot do anything against Turkey. Russia will just bitch and moan.

And yes, Russia needs to be held to account. Everytime Russia violates airspace they need to be dealt with. Russia will push until there is push back. Make them think twice before violating airspace.

If NATO violates Russian airspace Russia has every right to defense as well.

If I am reading this correctly (and I may not, so please correct me), the red is the SU-24's course? That looks a bit like an accident on the Russian pilots' part, certainly not needing to result in death (and the first source says one of the pilots is dead).

Keep in mind, that wasn't exactly an equal engagement. China knew that the USSR could wipe the floor with it at any time, and that its nukes probably couldn't deliver effectively enough to stop them.

Huh

I'm guessing that the Su-24 only passed through that little notch of land. How long could it have spent in the territory? 18 seconds? That's hardly good enough reason for Turkey to intercept the plane.

The point is that there have been far more serious incidents than this that didn't end with all-out war.

According to the Turks, five min, apparently it is bigger than it looks, but, still, if it was that big, it was pretty clear that the pilot was either unaware he was in Turkish airspace and was on his way out.

It was an orbit that intruded on Turkish airspace twice. The first time got a warning (or 10), the second time saw the Su-24 shot down. Some nations are actually capable of defending their own airspace.
