That thing would never make it through the front gate of a military post without the kid being detained at the very minimum. If it looked so much like a clock you would have a case.

If you don't have a badge saying your are a soldier or IT, you won't get into a military base with a PC in your hands without getting detained either. Because it's larger and more useful as a bomb container.

You won't be able to get on a military base at all if your a civilian without the proper sponsor anyway and documentation.

but whatever, my personal experiences mean nothing in this case.

I looked at the high res photo. It looks nothing like a bomb to me.

However, that's equally worthless. What IS pertinent is that no one - from the original confiscating teacher to the arresting officers and everyone in between - thought it was a bomb.

So if someone brought that on a military post you would just let them in?

After opening it and taking roughly a ten second glance at it, immediately realizing it's not a bomb?

Sure.

Good thing your not an MP then because if you have to inspect something to prove it's not a bomb by opening it then your dead wrong.

Literally one of the worst things you can do.

You NEVER touch something you might think is a bomb, that's EOD's job.

You basically admitted to doing what the teacher did...touching the damn thing.

I hope EOD keeps a permanent guy at the checkpoint then, because this thing, a cell phone, and a PC tower or laptop are roughly equivalent in suspicion level.

They probably need a permanent guy there to inspect all electronic devices forever.

Cell Phone don't tend to explode(they may be used as triggers however), PC towers generally aren't used as IED's as well and laptops don't have that reputation either.

They are not on the same suspicion level and judging by how you think that opening something up to prove it's not a bomb is your first response I don't think you quite know what your talking about.

Pc towers make good explosive cases, as do laptops. If I'm not going to be inspecting PCs as possible bombs via opening, then I wouldn't open this either.

Hell, as part of airport security, they often test laptops for explosive residue and sometimes demand it be opened and powered up to prove its a legit laptop.

As I recall, we caught a child pornographer that way one time.

:meh:

Dead animals make good explosive cases as well...your not making a relevant point.

and i already stated, those things are not generally used as IED's hence why they are not as suspicious

Cell Phones are by far more common than little boxes with wires that beep.

Pretty much anything these days can be used as an IED but it will be up to the commander of the base and his security measures or depending on the national security level for that area or region that the measures be followed.

but I wouldn't expect 15 million, I wouldn't expect any of that.

The point is this thing is no more suspicious as a bomb than any of hundreds of items present in school every single day, including cell phones, laptops, backpacks, boxes, PCs, shoes, briefcases, etc. Yet if a teacher saw a tassle hanging from a backpack and had the kid arrested for a bomb hoax, we'd think she lost her damn mind.

Arrest farmers for a bomb hoax every time an animal dies.

So if you got arrested without cause and interrogated without being allowed access to a lawyer, you would not think that such violations of your rights warrant serious compensation? Because I find that hard to believe. I find it hard to believe that almost anyone would not think that they would deserve to be compensated after such mistreatment. It's absurd.
