A “massive explosion” during a fire on a building site terrified workers in west London, in Colindale, the home of the RAF Museum. Police in Barnet have moved to reassure the public the blast was not terrorist-related (apparently). The noise was caused by a propane cylinder blowing up in the heat. Officers have warned a second canister could also explode.
Miklos Kiss, who works at the nearby RAF Museum, said: “If I wasn’t in an office with sturdy windows, I’m sure they would have shaken. “It was really loud – the kind of loud that you knew something bad had happened straight away, no mistaking it. “Me and my co-workers all rushed over to the windows. There was a swiftly rising pall of dark grey smoke that dissipated quickly, then we could hear sirens. “There was an announcement made by our security that it was a gas cylinder on a roof of a building in Lanacre Road nearby. “There is major construction going on all over Colindale as the area is being regenerated. “I think everyone was rattled and a bit jumpy. Maybe everyone is a little shaken at what might have been, given the current situation.” A Met spokesman told the Standard: “Police and London Fire Brigade are dealing with reports of an explosion at a building site in Colindale,” said a Met spokesman.

London Fire Brigade said the blaze started in a tar boiler in a four-storey building.

What do you think? Attack cover-up or simple accident? I was nearby and also witnessed two loud thumps, and later observed police cars and ambulances along with some fire trucks at the site. I believe this was not a coincidence and the work of terrorism supporters.
