It helps you because you understand how society has progressed, where it is currently, basically you get to understand society, something which you'll most likely have to deal with more often later in life, or at least more than you'll have to deal with organelles and golgi apparatuses.

If you're good at math you can easily switch into other good subjects like computer science, to philosophy. Everyone benefits from it.

Good at math =/= Good at Trig.

Trig is math but it's not as important as say, basic algebra. It's important to be able to work out various problems throughout your life (If I do x then how will that affect y, etc). But I'm not going to be laying by my front tire and trying to calculate how many radians my tires will spin if I go 10 kilometers. That's never going to happen. But I will potentially need to know how much I need of something, how much things will cost with added tax and other fees, how much to tip, how long it'll take to get somewhere...etc.

But you don't need an extra period to learn any of that. One period is just fine, it's worked for me as well as just about every person I've ever known. Never once did I hear anyone say we needed another period of math until now. If you need an extra period of something, you should reevaluate how good of a job the teacher's doing in actually teaching the material in a comprehensive way.

The class I'm currently taking is algebra mixed with trig (it's technically called algebra 2). Also our school adopted a system in which we have trig/algebra 2 one day, science the next, and then trig again. This is all in the name of making each class period longer, but it doesn't help when you're trying to memorize stuff.

Anyways, while I do agree that taking out PE is a bad move, you need to toughen up, and if you REALLY have that big of a problem about it, talk to your administrators, your teachers, and tell them what you think. If enough people agree with you, and your uppers are agreeable, then you'll probably get PE back, or some form of it.
