Which so disgusts and horrifies the Islamic world that support for the coalition drops if not giving Daesh a typhoon strength second wind and really giving right wing Islamaphobes what they want; a literal clash of civilizations that makes the Crusades look like a ball game.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Kanji Ishiwara once said on the cusp of Japanese domination in Manchuria that a titanic world conflict was fast approaching. He determined it was to occur, and then make way for a golden age of human culture.

Perhaps such visions fuel the minds of these people, but the only golden age there would be in such a scenario is most likely one of human barbarity and existential angst.

Fine, do it your way. Do NOTHING or its equivalent (i.e. carry out some token bombing raid on an empty compound near Syria) and call it 'war on terror'. Keep using these people's endless lists of real or imaginary grievances as your own political pawns in two-party politics, just to have the facility of calling everyone who disagree with you 'a bit of a meanie'.

As I said at the beginning, when you've had enough and the violence and terror becomes intolerable, you will do what you have to do. As you have done before. And it will be too late and therefore the scope of the combat theatre will be the whole world instead of just one region. Just like last time! If you think this process is under your control or can be intensified at a time of your choosing, you are surely mistaken.

It's just like a once nice suburb that's gone bad due to an influx of new arrivals, unemployment and crime. You will get beaten up on your way to school until you get to that boxing gym and take out the head bully. It's up to you when you acknowledge this. Better to do it as a kid with your hands than as a disillusioned man with a gun, a car, money to hire hitmen and a lifetime of pent-up hatred.

This whole debate is unnecessary anyway. To coin another analogy, what we're seeing is a middle-aged man who used to be a top fighter in his youth but let himself go and became soft and comfortable. He still has some of his looks, but all his potency is gone. Now he has constipation and it troubles him a lot. He tries to do what he can but his efforts don't work. Eventually the constipation will be relieved whether he rages or stays still. It can't stay pent up in there forever.

Nah, there won't be nukes. Unless IS or somebody else manages to pull off the long-dreaded spy thriller scenario and detonates a dirty nuke in a major Western city. Then the calls for a response in kind will no longer be containable.

And indiscriminate mass targeting won the day in Vietnam don't forget.

Well, thanks to IS the footballmatch between Germany and the Netherlands has been canceled.
That justifies war, right ?

Actually, apparantly, it is NOT the result of empty fear as I suspected.. it seems the Hannover police found an actual truck loaded with explosives.

The Vietnam War was not lost on the battlefield. Rather, a growing majority of American society went against a war in a country they had no connection with and that didn't had done anything to harm them.

If you really think a nuclear-armed country would not retaliate in kind upon having one of its major cities wiped out, you must be joking.

You missed the part in history class regarding what happened during the Vietnam War, didn't you?
Humans are monsters, we will never change, we will always want to claw out the throats of those with a difference in opinion, we will never be in an age of peace because of our lust for war, poverty will continue to exist as long as monetary needs exist. We rape, enslave, and conquer with no regards to others. We live by the sword, and we will, justifiably, die by the sword.

Hope is for unrealistic idealists. Pessimism is your friend.

The Americans didn't lose the Vietnam war. They however refused to play in the sequel.

Perhaps, but the problem is that the people here advocating nuclear attack prior to such an incident are so hell bent on looking like they're "opposing the damn dirty leftists" that they fail to recognize the utter catastrophe that would result from it.

You mean how the Americans beat the Northern Vietnamese back, and signed peace accords in '73?

The US continually beat the shit out of North Vietnam until we signed peace because literally everyone at home hated the war? That was common knowledge I thought.

Nope, the prevailing view among historical revisionists is that we lost the war.

Hannover apparantly is being closed down. Police is present in great force, the mayor referred to "a threat to the whole city" and promises to offer information soon. The source of the threat being Islamic seems to also been confirmed.

True, but we still won the war, at least our part of it. We turned it back over to the South Vietnamese and when the North Vietnamese broke the peace accords they collapsed in a matter of weeks. So it'd be like saying we lost WWI cause WW2 happened.

Yep, posted that last page. But no confirmation on it - the mayor is now being vague.

Right. But with how fast this thread goes, I figured I could help keep people informed.

It's not surprising, though. Me myself, I'm waiting for the "reprisal of Europe"
