French Attacks

Yes we can. It's a systemic and structural problem that keeps churning out these incidents.

If you are then why would you support opposition to religion? That has hardly worked out in promoting human rights in states like North Korea in its early years. By contrast, religion has many times been advocates of human rights, such as the case of Christianity in Korea. Believe it or not, Secularism is not always the bastion of freedom and Religion is not always the bastion of oppression.

This is awful.

My condolences to all the victims of this attack.

Here's what US President Barack Obama said in the last hour on the attacks in Paris:

"Paris itself represents the timeless values of human progress. Those who think they can theorise the people of France or the values they stand for are wrong. It endures beyond terrorism and beyond those who are committed to these whose hateful vision were perpetrated this evening. We will do whatever we can to work with the French people to bring these terrorists to justice. We have been working with French people to offer our prayers to those wounded."

On last July 7, an arsenal of the French military in Miramas (Provence) was breached and weapons were stolen. It was at least 180 detonators, 40 hand grenades, 10 packets of high-explosive.

I guess we have an idea about where they did get them.

Maybe, but then the gunmen would have to be using French military issue weaponry. There are far easier and far cheaper ways of getting weapons in France I'd imagine.

Yeah, you would think somebody would have cracked down after the last attack. Is the French government asleep at the wheel?

On sleeping pills, really.

Risottia wrote:
Olerand wrote:They would never dare. Deploying the army is political suicide.

Depends.
If you use the army to provide more muscle for the police forces - thus freeing the police for the investigation job while the military controls the territory - it's useful. It worked fine against the Mafia in Sicily some 25 years ago.

But this would never fly in France. If the government declares martial law, the FN will sweep the elections next month.

Highly probable; but that was a one time occurrence. Most other weapons, for gangs and such, come from Eastern Europe.

Hand grenades and high-explosives are hardly recognisable moments after they've been used.

No. We have lots of handguns. Semi auto rifles. Grenade attacks and attacks with full auto weapons do not happen.

A more accurate translation would be :

"I'm sick and tired
to feel a stranger in my own country, to be called constantly racist and intolerant
to see my people and my culture disappear
to hear "not every "..." " at each attack, to not feel safe in my own country
to see Paris being plundered again and again"
