And we've seen racist cops shoot people in Chicago. Racism is everywhere. Most of these racist shootings are happening up north. The restaurant incident was up north. I still believe that racism is evacuating the south because most white southerners are ashamed of the history of slavery and want to make a change. Most of my coworkers and bosses have been black women. We might have been slow getting here, but in my opinion, the south (maybe excluding certain parts of Mississippi) has done a complete 180 in terms of racial prejudice.

Depends on what your definition of historically means, I guess. As far as the Civil War is concerned, MO was part of the North, Geilinor. It was a slave state, but it stayed with the Union.

In common parlance, the South is the area south of the Mason-Dixon line, which MO is north of.

When I was young, my family moved to England from Romania. Me and my siblings only had a very basic understanding of English, but we were able to adapt. My siblings and I were often ridiculed for being from another country, and for speaking a different language. It makes me sad to see a story like this, because I feel like I can relate to this woman, who is proud to speak her native language, but also proud to live in a new country. The patron who attacked this woman should definitely be shamed for her action, because it is very terrible. I hope that things like this stop happening soon, but I am doubtful.

As a Southerner by birth and a Midwesterner by residence, that metric puts me in a highly qualified position to say that, no, Missouri is not part of the South, it's part of the Midwest.

Yoopers sound very Canadian to me. I wouldn't call them Canadian, however, they're Michiganite. And if you're talking about accents, it varies greatly on which part of MO you're in. People from the Boothill sound similar to AR. People from the St. Louis area, almost have no accent to speak of.

What do you mean "sound like?" I've been there, and their accents aren't Southern at all either.

Come to think of it, a lot of southerners don't have a full blown accent either, but it comes out when we say certain words. Like "y'all" or "buggie"

Missouri was an interesting state because it was a split government during the civil war. It had two governments, their star was on both flags (the confederacy and the union), and there was an intrastate war over the civil war.

However, nobody considers it the "South" proper.
