Welcome! One of the moderators suggested that I should start a thread about cars in general and I saw a similar one on the BeamNG forums. This is a thread where you can say anything about cars: love them, hate them, say which ones you own, which you want, what have you seen a person doing with a car... anything car related.

I'll start (knowing that it would evolve into something else):
In the last 10 years SUVs have been steadily replaced by crossovers. In my opinion this is a step back for motoring. Yes, not many people took SUVs offroad, but at least they had the ability to do it. In the crossovers they don't. We also shouldn't forget about the fact that crossovers have less interior space than similarily-sized SUVs. In my opinion ditching SUVs for crossovers was a step back for motoring.
A lot of time has passed, and my beliefs are reconsidered. I no longer see crossovers as a bad idea.

Instead, now I think they are the next step in car evolution, after the wagons and shooting brakes.

First, the interior shape. In a modern car, the roofline lays low, leaving quite little headroom, compared to the car's size. However, in a crossover, the roofline can be high, allowing for a comfortable interior.

Second, the suspension. Cars have stiff suspensions nowadays, because the scribblers have made us believe that is the best thing. It is not. You are more likely to make use of good damping than high lateral Gs. However, a crossover can (and usually does) get away with a soft suspension.

Third, a crossover is more practical. It combines the high roof of a wagon with a higher seating position (easier to get into), bigger windows (better visibility) and a larger tailgate (easier to load large stuff).

So, I no longer believe crossovers are a bad idea. In fact, they are the best thing nowadays.

PS: Please don't make posts that comprise only of stuff like "My favourite car is x" or "I like car x"!

I prefer almost any other form of land transportation to cars.

I personally like muscle cars. My favorite is the Chevy Camaro.

I don't see what's bad about people choosing not to pay for something they don't need, whether that's room or the ability to drive offroad.

I approach cars in a very utilitarian way. They take from point A to point B and back. I don't love them or hate them. It's just a vehicle to get me places.

But they don't pay less for a crossover.

It gives me a really good/evil feeling when I see all these people in traffic jams.

I just recently got my driver's license and am about to buy my first car. I didn't bother for a long time because I was living in the city, but where I am now, it's just too difficult to get around by public transportation, and my job is too far away to commute by bike in the winter.

I'm not sure what kind of car I am going to get. Depends what I can find that does not cost a lot.

I am glad you guys like my Monitor shtick, but sometimes I am not talking about that. This did make me laugh, though.

I personally find Toyota Corolla easy to drive. Also, they are quite cheap.

I think I saw a pick-up truck for $2,000 or $3,000 at one of the used car lots/repair shops in my neighborhood, but I am not actually looking for a truck. The towing capacity is a joke about how I post as the USS Monitor, a Civil War ironclad which weighed around 1000 tons. I would actually prefer a smaller vehicle that would be easier to maneuver on narrow streets and easier to park. New England has a lot of awkward narrow streets.

However, I heard that driving license tests are quite easier than those of other areas. You have a test for five minutes, testing you on stopping at a stop sign, and left and right turns only.

Currently have a little 1litre Vauxhall corsa.
When I was in the Kalahari I did work out plans to steal the 1984 Toyota landcruiser they had on the farm and drive it all the way back home, simply because it was awesome. It sounded like a tank, drove over/through most things, and had more pulling power than a damn tractor....god I miss that truck....

Wow. I don't even know what that is. Honestly, the only Toyota truck I know is Tundra.

Something like that would be OK. It depends on what the used car lots in my neighborhood have available. Since I don't already have a vehicle, and there are a few used car lots in walking distance, I am planning to just go to one of those.

Yeah, I heard, but my friend didn't have any of those at all. Man, when I took the road test, I had to parallel park, do the hill test, do the three-point turn, and do reverse parking.
