Since I tend to read signatures, I could not help but notice that this wannabe pagan Viking is against Christians, yet he merrily makes use of the tradition of literacy introduced by those very same Christians. I guess he didn't think things through really deep, probably because his 'paganism' doesn't go much deeper than having listened to Amon Amarth.

They've all formed a harmonious blend of peoples and come into some treasure. That treasure is ours.
Pro: Odin, axes, loot, raiding, the sea, pillaging, beards, mead.

Anti: Christians, cowards, Saxons, hot weather, a distinct lack of facial hair.

Congratulations on reading too much into a made-up nation in a game. But seeing as I can't fluently read or write in Old Norse, I will tell you to f*ck off in English instead. :)

Yes, damn that Christian English with its major Norse influences. One might think I was a troll here to ransack this thread, but you have thwarted me.

But it were fully Christianized and latinized Frenchmen with Norse ancestors from Normandy who truly molded the English language since they managed to defeat the English king in 1066. And opportunists those Frenchmen were, since the armies of the English king were exhausted after having destroyed invading Viking hordes.

Is it possible to be a Christian, or claim to be a follower of Jesus Christ or what he stood for, without taking the Bible too seriously?

You're in need of a theologian, maybe even a whole congregation of theologians. You could also wait until Dyakovo gets online, but you may not like his answer to your question.

I am not a Christian, nor have I ever been one. Nor do I foresee myself ever becoming one in the future. I'm just curious, as after a little under six months I've read the King James Bible cover to cover, and while there are some good bits of wisdom I can take away, there are also a lot of things in there that bothered me.

Of interest perhaps to many Viking/Norse enthusiasts and re-construction-ists (and to the dread of Neo-Nazi's,the Vikings were actually very curious and open to other cultures. Regularly brought back things both physical and intellectual from their travels, and even participated in foreign rituals out of respect, and equally let outsiders participate in their own rituals as a symbol of hospitality. It's a thing of legend, Norse hospitality.
