You almost got me if it wasn't because I tried to make sure it was a satire piece.

Yeah, but the funny thing about satire is it's often based largely in truth. I've seen "Worship Pastors" stretch out a song like that. Kinda defeats the purpose if you ask me.

Why do you feel it defeats the purpose?

Not to start an argument, but I used to play guitar in evangelical churches several years ago, so I'm curious about why do you feel stretching out songs defeats the purpose.

Well, it's very unoriginal. I would understand adding new, original verses to the music, but repeating them over and over is just gratuitous.

Catholics pulling stunts like that was one of the things that drove me into the sweet embrace of tradition.

I can see how that's true, comparing the local evangelical churches and the local Catholic churches down here, Catholic churches are not as "gospel" as evangelicals in terms of music.

They're lively for sure, the Catholic parishes down here, but they're a different kind of lively.

My local parish has managed to spruce up the liturgy without going overboard. Some nice folk guitar to accompany some songs and liturgical prayers. They took a bit more traditional route on the Easter Vigil, but non of it compares to the Traditional Liturgy done at the Church in my home town.

See, and that's the weird thing. Gospel churches I love, because it's all about being on fire for Christ. The whole congregation gets involved, and drives it. These rock show evangelical churches however, nah.

Not questioning his repentance which if it was unaccounted for would in most cases be an issue of direct excommunication, but there are limits to what church discipline counts as twice blameless for their clergy and I would be surprised if grand theft from the poor no less finds itself within that parameter. I mean I hope the guy manages to defeat his ills and move beyond this terrible event with time and I doubt anyone sees differently on that part, but that is hardly the core of the question as the victims are the refugees.

Brings up an interesting question. Is he being prosecuted for theft or will the church simply count it as revenue loss? Only way I could imagine, short of charity on the part of the casino that the refugees will get a dime back on the dollar.

I do however see a reason for caution. Parish budgets can be huge, and priests have a fair amount of latitude in spending it, and as Fr. Mike explained there aren't very many audits.

Dice are dangerous. My first roll ever, I rolled for about 25 minutes straight. Made everybody at the table rich except me cause I hadn't figure out how to bet yet. Haven't caught anything close to that luck since, but It is mighty tempting to try. I mainly stick to Poker. It's less a gambling game, more one of patience and skill, so i feel less guilty about it too.

Ever gone to Spanish-directed services at both an evangelical and catholic church? :p

You can tell the same sort of difference to be honest, except in Catholic churches the instrument rhythms are more classic (even if some churches down here have adopted modern instruments like electric guitars and electric bass) but the evangelical Spanish music down where I live loves the shit out of northern Mexico's rhythms like Rancheras, Baladas, and other rhythms.

I dunno, I'm of the impression that Praise music can be done well, it's just typically not. It's not great at a parish but at say a Promise Keepers convention?
