Syrians suppot Assad

Postby Wei Yang » Sat Oct 31, 2015 10:49 am

A recent poll carried out by France's Le Figaro newspaper has indicated that at least 72 percent of respondents want Syrian President Bashar Assad to remain in power. The survey, published on Thursday, asked: "Should world powers demand Bashar Assad to leave?" At least 28 percent from 21,314 respondents have voted "Yes" so far, while the majority - 72 percent - have said "No".

The US and its allies including Saudi Arabia repeatedly said the Syrian president, whose term expires in 2021, must resign. However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the Syrian people "should define the future of their country... including Assad's fate."

Earlier in October, a member of Moscow's parliamentary delegation told TASS that Assad had agreed to hold preliminary elections in the country, provided the move has the people's backing.

Syria has been caught up in a civil war since 2011, when violent protests erupted as part of the so-called Arab spring. During the turmoil, Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS) militants managed to capture large amounts of territory in Syria and Iraq.

This is obligatory discussion sentence. Do you think Assad should be ousted because reasons.

I'm wondering how many of these respondents are residents of the coastal provinces, which are generally pro-Assad and have been untouched by the war. Considering they are the ones most likely to have better access to such a poll.

How on Earth can you conduct an even remotely accurate opinion poll in Syria?

A poll will be better conductible in Syria with ISIS kicked out. Really besides the point.

Hey, they did the best they could. They polled the ten people in Aleppo who still have working land lines and electricity. And only three of them were Syrian army commanders.

The poll has no relation to the subject line. The poll would be answered by mainly readers of the website - the French.

That poll also comes from RT, which is very pro-Russia and hence pro-Assad. (It's the equivalent of saying most North Koreans support Km Jong-Un according to North Korean State TV ) Therefore i ask for a source that might be a little more reliable.

The US and its allies including Saudi Arabia repeatedly said the Syrian president, whose term expires in 2021, must resign.

"There is no way President Assad can unite and govern Syria," US Secretary of State John Kerry said during the meeting, adding, "Syrians deserve a different choice."

Because that worked out so well for the other countries you gave "a different choice" to.

I don't foresee Assad being ousted from power anytime soon. Western leaders are too whiny and bitchy to put their money where their mouth is, and the ISIS and FSA terrorists ain't got shit on Russia. The Kurds are pretty cool, though, so let them keep their areas.

Also kind of weird that they are holding talks about conflict in another country without actually having said country represented at those talks.

"72 percent of respondents"

Why I will take this poll with a pinch of salt. People in favour of something are far more likely to vote than those who are not or are apathetic.

Would you believe a poll that stated 72% percent of North Koreans support Kim Jong-un?

Actually, the said sondage was targeted at French people, and the 72% are the number of French who are in support of Assad, not 72% of the Syrian.
And, even if he is indeed largely supported by the religious minority and moderate sunnis, Assad is far from having such a good popular support.
