Yeah, that's what I've heard in the past, too. The whole idea was that you keep your mind awake, but ensure your body remains perfectly still so it falls asleep. Supposedly at length you'll feel the urge to kick your legs or something, but if you resist it that goes away.
From what I read about true sleep paralysis being a result of the body's attempt to prevent movement during REM sleep, though, I wonder if it's truly the same thing. It's one thing for your mind to wake up from REM sleep and leave your body in it...but it's another to lay still and have your body enter REM sleep alone...
