Sleep paralysis & nightmares

Postby Garimidia » Sat Feb 06, 2010 1:49 am

Well, I had a case of this last night. It lasted for about 30 seconds, nevertheless, I was scared shitless.

I couldn't move, and some guy with no face was sitting on my chest and I tried desperately to break free.

Ever had this before? It's VERY scary. :(

Edit: I'll add this to be a topic about nightmares as well. What type of nightmares have you had recently? Ever had recurring ones? What was the scariest nightmare you've ever experienced?

I've had it so many times I am used to it now...happens to me like once or twice every year, not sure why I have it so frequently but I guess it's because I have a very irregular sleep pattern.

No, but I've had a few dreams that stick with me, like that one with the tripods that come out of televisions. It seems silly now, but I was freaking out in the dream.

I actually had this once. I was all being levitated out of bed and shit, going up to the ceiling. It was ubar fucking creepy. Fortunately I always keep a large knife strapped to my calf, so I was so ready for those alien motherfuckers.

But then they dropped me back into bed. And have never bothered me since.

I've had some weird shit like that as well. I had a dream I was playing basketball and my legs wouldn't move - and became all stretchy and stretched around the court.

Ironically at the climax of the dream, me and the Resistance had to play basketball against the tripods... and I had to control the tripod.. and I went on a rampage and destroyed some control tower, and then I woke up.

It's where you have sleep paralysis and an Old woman enters your room and sits on your chest. Apparently it's really common.

Fortunately I didn't experience that but a man with no face.

Nope, usually my vision becomes sort of...hazy and I hear strange voices or music. I usually manage to get out of it pretty quickly by really forcing myself to move a limb.

I have a particular nightmare which is triggered by an episode of the old show Samurai Jack which used to be on Austar. For those of you who've seen the show, its the episode with those large beetles with scythes for forelegs.

But yeah, I've had experiences where my dreams weren't as scary as the above examples, but were so vivid and realistic that they possessed me for about 24 hours after.

Actually, one of the scariest experiences was related to the Holocaust... I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Yeah, I used to have recurring nightmares when I was about 7, when I think back about I kind of have to laugh about it, my nightmares always started differently but always ended in the same way, you're never gonna believe this, a dwarf with fangs and cat-eyes would be hanging on a wall in my room smiling at me in a very scary way, when I first had that nightmare I was scared shitless and screamed so loud that I woke up everyone in the house.

I can recall one specific nightmare very well, I just walked up the stairs to my room to play with my lego and I suddenly saw that monster hanging on my wall again and I was all like "fuck that I am not going in there" and I closed the door and then I was pretty much like "Yay, I beat him" so I went up the attic which was where I usually had some toys. Then, I recall that I saw something fall under the drawer so I tried to pick it up, then when I looked up I saw this guy* just 2 inches away from me.

After that I never read any goosebumps book again.

Yes, once a very long time ago, and in just about the same way (also dreamed of someone on my chest). Even though it was some time ago, I still remember it like it happened yesterday.

LOL, the good old Goosebumps. Or not so good.

One of the worst recurring dreams that I used to have, night after night after night, was the dream about the Bear with pink lips. It is my most vivid dream.

I would be wondering through a field or open paddock of some sort and come upon a completely random, old, out of contrast house (to the rest of the scene.) After seeing this house, the rest of the once bright and lovely paddock would go dark and quite horror movie like. I remember it would also begin to rain - so I would take refuge in this house. I would be in it for hours, waiting for someone to find me, knowing I was in the middle of nowhere, lost, in this fucking scary house. Eventually it would be midnight, or really dark to the point where the only thing I could see would be the moon and the shadow of the window on the floor. I would try to find somewhere to sit, not being able to.

Eventually I would see the attic, and decide to climb up there. Once up there, one of those musical boxes would begin to play a shit scary tune, and behind me I would hear something creeping up on me. I would be absolutely paralyzed with fear, but I would eventually turn around and see the bear with pink lips. Behind it were dead bodies and shit.

I used to have that dream for months, and I would be absolutely terrified of going to sleep.

Haha, in the dream she was a police officer and she would be getting out of the car in a slow motion scene. For some reason it scared the shit out of me, maybe the fact that she was actually doing something for the public.

A cousin of mine has it, and sometimes has a hard time seprating the dream from reality. When he was stationed in South Korea; he had some of the freakiest nightmares of kids running around the base at night stealing stuff. He never sought out professional help while in the army, however, he thought them real at the time.

Never had that. (Thank goodness)
The most recent nightmare I had was a while ago, It went on for 3 nights.
It was always the same, There was some kind of Zombie apocalypse, I can't remember much about it anymore though. What I remember is the end of it. It was different on each night, Kinda like I would keep having it until I Saved myself in it.
1st night I locked myself in the bathroom, It ended when I could hear them scratching against the door.
2nd night I boarded up the house.
3rd night I made a run for it, I could see them chasing me from all directions as I ran (I didn't stop and look, I actually dream in third person.) It ended as I got to an intersection and they were coming from all sides.

Ohh! I just remembered a recurring nightmare.
How it unfolds is always different, but It's always the same premise, It's dark, I'm running to my home which is filled with my entire family, oh and the world is ending by some natural, or cosmic disaster. And most of the time there are creatures in the dark (Sometimes they are dog-like and sometimes they have claws, but they are always Ink-well black and invisible in the dark). And one time My house was a tower and it was destroyed by something that shot off of the sun, (which was red and HUGE in the sky, Although it was still pitch black everywhere, and it looked like earth had no atmosphere) before I got there.

I can recall three times in my life when I had sleep paralysis. Once was in college, when I took a nap on the couch before going to work that evening. I remember waking up and being able to see the room, but I couldn't move. Eventually after willing myself to move for about a minute I began flailing around and fell off the couch.

Second time was in college as well, when I had been up all night studying. Same sort of thing -- I woke up and saw the clock and knew I needed to wake up, but I couldn't move or speak. Eventually I sat bolt upright and was able to move again.

The only time I've ever seen anything to accompany the paralysis though was about six months ago. I woke up in the middle of the night and saw four black silouettes surrounding my bed. They were short enough that without inclining my view (I was lying flat on my back) I could see them all. I couldn't move then, either, but I had experienced it before and living alone I knew they were not there. So I closed my eyes and started to try to move my fingers. When they could move, I gradually started adding more body parts -- wrists, elbows, etc -- until I could move. Then I opened my eyes and, naturally, the figures were gone.

Each time was pretty darn scary, but the first one in the morning when I couldn't move was most scary. It was like I was being pinned, and I could not even cry out for help. It's old hat now, I just make sure to assure myself that I have control and I only see what I tell myself to see.
