Minerals fill the cellular spaces and crystallize. The shape of the original plant or animal is preserved as rock. Sometimes the original material is dissolved away leaving the form and structure but none of the organic material remains.

Now, how much time exactly does this take?

More than your book says. It's not in the thousands, baby.

Aren't there like tons of ways for fossils to be formed like with tree sap and lava...not just water.

See my answer... But yes, there's about a half a dozen ways that fossils can be formed.

1. Permineralization (the way I already described)
2. Carbonization: In this process of fossilization plant leaves, and some soft body parts of fish, reptiles, and marine invertebrates decompose leaving behind only the carbon. This carbon creates an impression in the rock outlining the fossil, sometimes with great detail.
3. Amber: Insects, spiders, and even small lizard have been found, nearly perfectly preserved in amber.
4. Asphalt: fossilization a la the La Brea tar pits.
5. Desiccation: Basically unassisted mummification.
6. Freezing: Think the Mammoths found in Siberia.

No, not exactly. But for good, decent fossils to be formed the organism must undergo a quick burial. Correct?

I'm a Christian, and personally, I think that other Christians who try to force their beliefs onto others are wrong. I myself try to get to know people for a long period before I even bring up religion. Don't shove it on their faces, or it'll never work. They'll hate you for it. Which brings us to this topic.
I don't think Atheists hate Christians. They just hate their beliefs. I have some good friends who are Atheists. It's like asking why Muslims hate Zionists. Their beliefs collide. They are incompatible.

Now don't you quote me and start an argument with me, I'm tired and going to bed as soon as I click 'Submit'.
I'm a lurker. I tend to view threads only and rarely post. On the occasion that I do post, it's most likely in F7.

Thank you. I'm not alone for I have no idea where she is going with this.

My theory at this point is that she just pulling random things out of her ass hoping she'll stump us, at which point she'll declare victory.

Doesn't she know that we have the internet behind us? We can't lose! 8)

I don't know about you, but I've got the internet in front of me...

You know when you tell someone, "I got your back" or "I'm behind you on that issue". Essentially I was saying that the internet will give us support on our side. I mean, sure there is Christian sites out there, but they aren't that credible.

Where did she go?
