Atheists why do you all hate Christians?

Religious people try to convert me, also. Not just people from the more oganised religions - I've had solitary Wiccans try to convince me of the theological supremacy of their position.

And yet - many religiously based groups clothe the naked, feed the hungry, build schools in third world countries, disseminate medicine in parts of the world most of us will consider ourselves lucky to never have to visit...

I don't care if you ask for a prayer when you feed the hungry. Just so long as you feed them. That can't be bad.

But are they really doing it because of their religion, or are they doing it because they have compassion?

I do search for those answers, and like many, I consider that religion is not a good place to look. It's too restrictive. It assumes that the answers are all find in a tiny little box that's been created by human beings. When you posit that the answer is "my religion, my take on deity, my notion of spirituality all of them as handed down to me by my accepted authority" you aren't giving real answers, you're just repeating hand-me-down dogma. I wonder at so many "religious" people - their refusal to jump out of the box and start exploring. I think it's fear.

The same can be said for some Atheists who repeat the same old shit that you hear from many atheists then when you start questioning them they either can't or have no real reasons to back up their statements.

Not all religious charities require you to listen to their sermons or convert. The Salvation Army is an example of one that does not.

Threatening to close all the soup kitchens if legislation would be passed requiring organisations working with civil authorities to recognise domestic partnerships, including those of gays, is indeed not a cnversionhook in any way.

Your thinking of the Catholic Church. the Salvation Army made no such threat. in fact it condemned the threat.

I don't know if you can always separate the two. *shrugs*

I've met enough people who talk about what assholes they would be, if they hadn't found religion, to suspect that (at least) SOME people NEED religion.

The first post was so wrong that - if you started from post two, and typed "The first post was WELL wrong", and you added another post with an extra 'well', and then a third post with one more extra 'well' in it... after 44 pages, you'd have enough extra 'wells' added to understand just how totally well wrong the first post was.

Of course. I consider atheism as much a matter of faith as belief in deity. There is no substantive proof that deity exists and there is no proof that deity does not exist. Both sides become dogmatic as Hell and both sides annoy the Hell out of me. I've come down on the atheist side (barely) because I've heard slightly more rational discussion supporting disbelief than I've heard supporting belief in deity, but I'm open to all sides of the discussion. But, just as belief in deity does not guarantee a spiritual life, disbelief in deity does not negate a spiritual life: just as dogmatic belief in a particular religion almost guarantees stunted spiritual growth.

Point being, you don't say deliberately inflammatory things in front of the group it targets and legitimately expect Zero repercussions.
