Is bacon.... Overrated?

(Not Kevin Bacon of course)

After being frustrated by far too many great foods being ruined by adding bacon into them (I'm sorry, but I like my mac n cheese bacon free), I am now willing to commit the ultimate internet crime; denouncing bacon as being overrated.

Now bacon by itself is alright. It's not awful, but it certainly can't hold its own against a well spiced sausage immersed in maple syrup. To me, bacon is far too salty. Cooking it is a pain in the ass (actually, a pain in the arms because hot oil splashes everywhere). Oven baked bacon is slightly better, but I still don't see why the strip of salted pork has such an intense cult following. I suppose I've always been more of a sausage man (get your filthy mind out of the gutter). Sausages offers so much more in varieties and textures.

So, what say you NSG? Anybody else believe that bacon is a bit overrated? Or have I apparently lost my mind?

There are bacon-flavored jelly beans.

We've gone too far.

It's 99% fat. Eating it is the same as drinking bacon grease. That is why I don't eat it at all.

No. Bacon is proof that if there is a God, he exists. Bacon is the supreme food.

Mixing bacon with things like macaroni or ketchup is fucking repulsive.

Bacon on it's own however is excellent.

On it's own or complemented with syrup or chocolate, no not at all. In fact it is severely underrated.

I used to think bacon was overrated when I was a young kid, after having already eaten bacon for years. Then I once had what I consider 'good' bacon, and holy shit it was good. Basically if you cook it just right, or using the right kind of fat, it can taste absolutely amazing, but a lot of the time it isn't cooked that well at all, sadly I was never able to cook bacon that well myself.

Apparently, we have a great deal of violence stemming from avid bacon eaters. :p

Eh, when it comes to bacon, it's a matter of taste and correct pairing. At least, in my experience.

I didn't like those myself. But making the pancakes in some of the bacon grease is actually not too shabby.

I do not tend to pair things like bacon with sweet stuff, however. But that's just me.

We're not coming to take your food freedoms away. We just want restrictions on diet, for health!
