I absolutely love it. It adds to burgers, its great with cheese, wrapped around various meats it is a godsend, the flavor it adds to bits, even salads, is amazing, and apparently you can do nearly anything with it, even though the idea of chocolate-covered or bacon donuts makes me go 'ew'. Even as a child, knowing where it all came from - farming grandparents y'see - and understanding that there was once Herman, now on our plate sizzling temptingly, I loved the stuff. Always will. You can take my bacon when you pry it from my cold dead hands, dammit. And all this nonsense about processed meats being the next 'bad guy' on the list of 'zomg cancer!' threats, I couldn't care less about. Anything in excess can be bad for you. If anything, it's all the crazy shit people are putting in their animals and feed that's the problem, not the meat itself, and we've been heading down this road with a whole lot of things for decades now. Not to mention how they keep changing their minds on what is or isn't 'healthy', I swear.
I'll eat what I want, dammit. And now of course, I want bacon and I don't have any. Thanks,ObamaNSG.

The ghastly second-rate product that's referred to as 'bacon' in the United States is indeed overrated. I pity our American cousins, forced to go through life eating this ersatz product, usually unaware that there's any alternative, and unable to ever fully experience the transcendental and life-affirming experience that can only come from eating true bacon.
European bacon, on the other hand, is the divine ambrosia brought to the Olympian gods by doves, as described by the poet Homer.
The bacon served in Australia and New Zealand is also of high quality, and indeed sometimes seems to have been hacked from the bellies of mythical giant pigs larger than any of their European counterparts.

As to the 'turkey bacon' and 'beef bacon' on sale in Persian Gulf countries, I still shudder at the thought, and the less said in the polite company of this thread's participants, the better.

Turkey bacon is not bacon and turkey burgers are not burgers. I don't know why people make crap like that.

Give in to the inevitable Eurobacon Supremacy. Contrary to what Gauthier claims, it's not bigotry, only acknowledgement of the inevitable victory of the uberschwein.
Search your feelings; you know it to be true.

Does this count for Netherlands "spek" as well? I can't compare, I haven't ever eaten American bacon...

Christians don't, of course, but then Christians couldn't even be bothered to ban cannibalism. Although they do have a curiously odd insistence that humans taste like dry wafers.

After being frustrated by far too many great foods being ruined by adding bacon into them (I'm sorry, but I like my mac n cheese bacon free), I am now willing to commit the ultimate internet crime; denouncing bacon as being overrated.
Now bacon by itself is alright. It's not awful, but it certainly can't hold its own against a well spiced sausage immersed in maple syrup. To me, bacon is far too salty. Cooking it is a pain in the ass (actually, a pain in the arms because hot oil splashes everywhere). Oven baked bacon is slightly better, but I still don't see why the strip of salted pork has such an intense cult following. I suppose I've always been more of a sausage man (get your filthy mind out of the gutter). Sausages offers so much more in varieties and textures.
So, what say you NSG? Anybody else believe that bacon is a bit overrated? Or have I apparently lost my mind?
