After actually really reading the OP I'm once again surprised by how many falsehoods about atheism you can throw in there.

Given the teacher's assertion that God is 'a myth', the OP's intended meaning behind the word 'atheism' seems to be the rejection of the existence of God, i.e. the belief that God does not exist. Not a religion per se, but a belief nonetheless.

Some consider that the existence of God is a fact while others think the God doesn't exist at all. In particular example the teacher demonstrated was in fact that the existence of God is an opinion something that religious people consider it to be a false statement.
