Because nobody totally didn't see this coming at all. It's interesting how the calls for caution from some influential women and even some feminists (and the fact that I am quoting Vox is even more surprising) were ignored by the zealous misandrists who just wanted to watch the world men burn. Because when you bite the hand that feeds you, you don't get any more food. And this is increasingly happening across most workplaces in the United States, not just in the corporate sphere. Thanks to #MeToo, women are increasingly being seen by upper management as a liability and are increasingly being isolated in the workplace.

So one would think that women would be looking for ways and means to allay men's fears about false accusations and other kinds of issues brought up in #MeToo in response to the increasingly reduced opportunities and containment of women in the workplace? According to the Bloomberg article I used for the source, it appears they've opted to double down on claims of misogyny:

“If men avoid working or traveling with women alone, or stop mentoring women for fear of being accused of sexual harassment,” he said, “those men are going to back out of a sexual harassment complaint and right into a sex discrimination complaint.”

So, who is to blame for all of this? Men, of course. Men are the ones to blame, because men always are. We're responsible for whatever women do. And the apparent solution to this rests, yet again, on the shoulders of men. We have to "step up" and "not be assholes". Because society making women responsible for their actions is clearly sexism.

However, I am heartened that more and more men are using caution when dealing with women in the workplace and not caving in to this renewed social pressure. My only sincere hope is that this spreads, and that the effects of this backlash against women in the workplace grow. This is a lesson that those who support #MeToo need to learn, so that they do not feel compelled to make the same mistakes again.

So what do we think, NSG? Is this backlash against women in the workplace justified? Is this yet more sexism from men?

Probably not. The scenario is imo unrealistic but taking it at face value, the only means I can see that happening is largely an ideological stasis or slow escalation to Naziism across the western world.

Delaying the ultimate incarnation and avatar of western biological racism, imperialism, chauvinism, militarism, and civilization (in terms of industrialization, mass production, bureaucracy, and so on.) while those values were at the core, until we have better technology?

Better mass media techniques?

Better techniques to dupe people and distract them from problems?

Until the world is more globalized and opposition from external sources is less likely?

It would mean a genocide in the future that makes the old one pale in comparison. We already barely give a shit about genocide with those things in place, imagine how little fucks we'd give if racism was just completely normal and accepted and seen as something to maintain for prosperity purposes.

It would mean a boiling of the frog. Germany, following the defeat, decided to cling to the fundamentals, the core principles of what we thought made western civilization strong and mighty and to view everything else as an impurity to be done away with. It was witnessing this incarnation and the horrors it brought that shocked the western world into critical self-evaluation of these principles and their impact.

Without it, and especially without the cataclysmic war that brought the empires to their knees, Imperialism would have been the norm, and continued to be the norm. Segregation, racism and all that, would have slowly escalated over time.

The Empires were to Nazi values what Social Democrats (Of the old school that view it as a path to socialism, and communism) were to revolutionary communists.

Naziism is horrifying not because it is separate and distinct, but because it is an incarnation of the things that now horrify us about our own societies.

The holocaust is tragic, but delaying it is not going to make things better. Worse probably.

The frog boiled in Germany at a more rapid pace than the outside world and that is what shocked us awake. (See that old quote from "they thought they were free.").

Had the frog continued to simmer at the pace it was simmering elsewhere, we wouldn't have thought the racism in Germany at all remarkable. But because the Germans said "This process that gives us strength, lets take it up to 11, the power it gives us will let us defeat the others" and then;

1. That didn't happen
2. It made things worse for them
3. It was fucked up beyond belief

I think the holocaust or an analogous event was bound to happen, and historically did repeatedly happen. What makes the holocaust different is it occured:

1. During a time of industrialization and mass production.
2. During a period of history where ethical discourse was developed enough to potentially give a shit.

Having it too much earlier, or without one of those criteria being fulfilled, means it just faces into the background with all the other genocides. Too much later, and the problems I talked about above happen.

I think the holocaust is notable because it was the first major genocide to happen with those two conditions being fulfilled, and thus provoked reflection and discussion on the topic and so on. If you artificially prevent humanity from genocide until the present day and then remove that artificial limitation but leave the old attitudes in place without the critical self-reflection on them?

That sounds like a bad time.
