The Stanford rapist is a rapist. Not a swimmer, not a promising student. A rapist. He raped someone and it's insane how you all seem to want to trivialize it.
Either the prison system exists to rehabilitate or it exists for retribution and punishment. The judge said that it was evaluated that he was not a great threat to the general public in his current state, so the sentence was light. I disagree with it, personally, because I think punishment should be part of the prison system, but if we are going to have it solely for the purpose of rehabilitation, then this seems like a very understandable sentence.
