Technically, the President appoints people to the Supreme Court, so he actually is responsible for a whopping 2/9 of the Supreme Court Justices. Clinton takes the fall for another two, as do Reagan and G. Bush (inc. the Chief Justice). G. H. W. Bush finishes it off with one of his own.

The point of that matter was that the President doesn't sit in the Supreme Court and tell the justices how to vote or make their rulings. The Supreme Court is it's own branch of the government that decides what is and what isn't constitutional and then makes a decision.

The point that my friend was trying to make was, "Obama could have shot down the Supreme Court ruling that legalized same sex marriage." The immediately response was, "No, Obama could not shoot down the Supreme Court decision."

Laws were made banning same sex marriage in many states, the Supreme Court looked at those laws and determined they were unconstitutional. The laws were revoked, done deal.

I'm not hating on gays, you can be with whom you want, but I beilive that the court ruling was unnecessary and begins to push lines on government enetering private life. just go to a state where it is legal and your golden.

I'd get ordained if it came with the right to officiate in Australia. But it doesn't - it's like a year-long degree to be able to officiate here.

Same sex marriage being illegal was a prime example of the government entering private life. The court ruling was fully necessary as it ruled the laws as unconstitutional, which they were. As for your point of "go to a state where it is legal" the problem is faced when they return to their home state where it is illegal - Those states were refusing to recognize any same sex marriages that occurred outside their state's boundaries, which was once again unconstitutional.

We all can do a lot of good within our churches without necessarily being a priest.

I wanted to become an ordained priest myself, but as I matured and became older I realized that just wasn't for me and I decided against it for personal reasons. Mostly the fact I want to marry, and that I just feel I can do more good privately than through the chuch. And I am just too radical, let's be honest
