It's more popular than I thought when I started watching its movies.

I only watched one Indian movie, which is about this boy, who is arranged to marry this girl, who goes to college and meets a student there whom she calls her boyfriend. Her boyfriend was the president of some student government party and she got heavily involved in it.

The mayor of the Indian government eventually slayed him, because he was opposing them a great deal. The girl gets depressed and decides to take upon his legacy, then eventually dies in an accident. I didn't really get that movie at all.

Well, that sounds more like an Indian drama film than Bollywood. Bollywood distinguishes itself for lighter hearted storylines, the music and dance scenes.

For example, this is an Indian drama/thriller movie, and this is Bollywood.
