IIRC Uranus, in the original was in a relationship with Neptune, but it was cut out overseas.

This was what America was like when it came out. Neptune/Uranus had an actual relationship, but it as cut out because of America's silly attitudes back then.

Which if you look at it from a conservative stand point makes things worse. "Let's take these girls in a relationship and make them girl cousins in a intimate-like relationship! What could possibly go wrong!?"
Really as a kid I would have been less weirded out by two girls dating (might have even gotten me started on the whole LGBT earlier) than by cousins having homo- erotic (unless there is a better word?) subtexts.

While I don't watch the show, Degrassi had an episode (My Body is a Cage) revolving around a FtM transgender boy named Adam having to deal with real, actual issues that a lot of trans people face.

Yeah I saw that on tvtropes even had an episode where he tried to detransition before burning all his remaining female clothing. Good episode when most people shrugged it off as an issue in real life. Makes me think Degrassi is worth a watch.
