I'm content to misinterpret the phrase "eternal lie" and I make no apology for it.

When my own father presented me with a similar scenario, I told him to f off if he couldnt take a joke. I imagine my response to God would be as negative and blase, but maybe a tad more respectful.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Then there'd arise new generation of gods, adjusted to secularization, so their portfolio and followers would fit into modern secularized world. :p

Then we'll have to ramp it up to imposing hardline state secularism with harsh penalties upon anyone who expresses a belief in any deity. The war can be won.

If the society of the militant godless can fail then your program will ultimately fail as well.

Welcome to the club of predetermined failures.

No, it's fine if the state is the only god left. It will be a fair and benevolent state.

It's fine, right... depends on what state you live in.

Its even scarier having the state as an all powerful deity than a vague God in my opinion.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/L ... lvationWar

Got it wrong, it's Salvation War.
(though the war against heaven book is Pantheocide.)

The Salvation War is a Web Original trilogy that premiered online in the beginning of 2008, asking a simple question: what if God announced that everyone's time was up, and that Satan was coming to claim the bodies and souls of everyone on earth?
The answer author Stuart Slade gives is simple: the governments of the world declare war on Heaven and Hell, and bring upon them all the might of the modern military services aided by every single technological advancement we've made since the Bible Times.

If the option is between the two, I favour an acceptably benign state with immense temporal power that can be used for ethical ends. At that point such a state may well amount to being a sort of revered deity.
