I believe them to be well worthy of nomination and support because of their selfless devotion to providing free care to those who need it, regardless of who they are, in some of the worst conflicts and emergencies witnessed in recent history.
The organisation was originally founded in 1971 in the wake of the Biafra secession and since then has helped deliver healthcare and medicinal training to many thousands in such situations as; the civil wars in Sudan, the genocide in Rwanda, the al-Anfal conflict, the Liberian civil war, and the Cambodian wars.
In more than 40 years of facing incredible difficulty in their work, the MSF has only called for military action once. This was in Rwanda after they lost almost 100 staff, and the first hand witnessing of the mass murder made it obvious that the conflict could not be solved by doctors alone.
To this day the men and women of MSF strive to help those in need, facing the very real threat of direct violence, kidnap, and landmines, not to mention the risks of disease. They give freely to people regardless of race, faith, political affiliation, and also believe the needs of these people outweigh any respect for borders.
I will second the nomination.
