Except that won't happen. The public will be pissed off at doctors the support for them will dry up and they will lose. That's pretty much 90% of strikes from public services nowadays. The public in general are sick of them but the blame the people striking not the government. Probably to do with most people are not part of a union nowadays but they have to be careful what they do. Rushing headlong into a strike is the worst course of action a union could take nowadays for and because of various reasons.

This is probably especially true with the NHS, the public want take kindly to it once people are put at risk over it which is what would happen due to staffing levels dropping during a strike. The last time Doctors went on strike was in 2012 with GPs, from what I remember in the end a majority did not approve of the strike.

I think currently they have the support of the public but going on strike risks that once the effects of the strike are felt.

What it is, is the public being entitled ninnies, who don't want to be inconvenienced by services they feel entitled to receive.
The plight of a junior doctor matters jack shit if they can't see their GP on a Thursday.

This is pretty circular because of course we are entitled to state services. But somewhere along the line, people stopped understanding or caring and now they're just something we expect to be there rain wind or shine (rather than an important asset to be protected!) and if it takes a hilarious staff turnover to make it happen, well then I guess that's what it takes to make it happen.

This is why I couldn't be a politician. I'd end up telling the public how fucking stupid and infuriating they are in every speech.

Is it me, or do people often seem to confuse our GDP with our government budget? For example, people often make the point that we spend 9.1% of our GDP on health, but what does that actually matter? Surely the point we should be making is how much of the government budget we spend on health, which is, by the way, 18%? Why do people always talk about the percentage of the GDP?

I admit that I haven't read the article (mostly because I don't want to dignify the Tab's existence - protip, the Tab is crap. Imagine if The Daily Mail wasn't hilariously right-wing, and didn't have an editorial stranglehold and was written by students who weren't paid), but given that we already consider ourselves in a dodgy position for not preventing people going over to fight against IS, I'm not surprised that UCL want to avoid the heat and not appear to endorse such a message.

The thing I love about you is that no matter the issue you will always have the view that will require a good heart. That's commendable. I wish I wasn't so pragmatic at times. Although I do agree we need to let more refugees in.
