Protectionism is a perfectly good word, referring to such simple economic policy that anyone who is unfamiliar with it should be considered incompetent to vote.

To use it in the sense you just did suggests you've been watching a lot of Fox News, or some similar den of illiteracy, instead of doing your duty and posting on NSG!

(Actually, a search shows you posting plenty, but for some reason I haven't seen your name in like a year!)

While, I believe they are still too young for such events, I do not feel however that they deserved to be punished by the legal system nor should this be something that the school involve itself in.

I imagine in those cases the kids aren't charged with a felony...

If only a slightly older person had been exploiting them, they'd have got off Scot free.

Nonsense. "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" is a good way of establishing trust, between children who are told from a young age not to show their “private” parts to anyone. They're very rarely given a good reason (in fact, I can't think of a good reason) and thus, breaking that rule together is a legitimate method of bonding ("me kid, you kid, let's fight the oppression!")

Long, long before the ages of 12 or 13. Pretty much, from the day they're taught "modesty". Which would be 4 or 5 in most cases.

"Paternalism" is a better word, which doesn't have any other meaning. You could also try "nanny state policy".

I do context. A word whose meaning relies on context is always inferior to one which is unambiguous.

I hope my persistent grammar-nannying reminds you of who I was before I was Mean Feat. Shh! I've always liked your posts, and thanks for this thread.

I have my opinions and I will keep them. Though if I learned of my hypothetical child playing 'doctor' I would not punish, though if they were trading dirty pics over the phone they would lose it, or scold them. Instead, I will merely attempt to give them a refined birds and the bees conversation.
