You could take the warheads out and trigger them manually or entirely remove the entire computer system from the missile and wire a new one in that has different codes. I know nukes don't explode on contact but they could still trigger the detonation without the computer.

It's a bluff doomed to fail. The reaction to "We have absconded with this nuclear weapon, do as we say or else!" is not going to be "Guys, do what they say." It's going to be "We don't negotiate with terrorists."

And as others have already mentioned, we all know just how calm and non-overreactionary the US is when it comes to terrorists. Also, nukes are a bit more complicated than that, it is very difficult to trigger a nuclear explosion without some extremely precise mechanisms. Trying to drop the warhead and detonate it without the rest of the mechanism would more likely result in a complete dud.
