...that would be awesome.

There'd be so much infighting over who gets to keep then name Texas that the rest of the world wouldn't hear a peep from them for decades...

Man, Texans are such hypocrites. First they absolutely demand that the U.S. takes them in, tricking them into a war with another country just to be finally taken in, and now they want independence again? Gawd, make up your flippin' mind Texas.

It taught stupid motherfuckers the concept of secession...I suppose that's not what you were shooting for though.

Apparently it taught Texans to ask nicely instead of just declaring themselves seceded.

Now, I am just waiting for Fort Sumter to be fired upon.

To be fair that generation is dead so this new one hasn't lived in the environment those Texans did.

Think of that! What is they actually manage it?

Supreme Court ruling about gay marriage nullified.

Texas has nuclear weapons in its territory. Would Texan soldiers in the federal army defect?

Can the rest of the south go with it? At least Oklahoma?

Libertarian paradise, or conservative utopia?

I know I would be moving.

Texas would need to be granted the right to secede from Congress, something which nobody (except for maybe the Democrats perhaps, as it would be a net loss for the Republicans) would ever consider supporting.

I do hope they've learned from Texas v. White.

All they know is the ebil Washington government taking away their religious freedoms by allowing all monogamous pairings to establish marriage contracts nationwide.

As a native-born Texan who still lives in the state, Texas secession is- to be blunt- an utterly stupid idea. There's no real reason for Texas to secede, it's illegal under US law, we'd get our asses handed to us if we tried, and there'd be no serious benefits even if we did succeed at seceding. The argument basically consists of some mixture of the "muh states rights" and "gubmint be treadin on me" and soforth that was used to justify Texas seceding in 1861, minus the "muh slavery" bit- though if the OP is any evidence then "muh homophobia" appears to have replaced it.

As for those of you from outside the state, the number of secessionists here is much lower than you'd expect. Having lived in the state for my entire life, I haven't met any actual Texan secessionists in the real world; I've only ever seen them online. The last time there was a big petition-for-independence push, the number of people who signed it amounted to less than two percent of the state's population, and most of the signatories weren't actually Texans.

He's saying that Texas is better than Sudan. It's a comparison, but one which doesn't aim to demean Texas.

We have our own Abbott, unfortunately. He's not much better.

Once again, Sudan is on an entirely different- and far worse- level.

Because only working class whites not on the coast can be racists.
