I oppose same-sex marriage; I'd assume you feel that I'm a bigot. I understand what the statement means; it's also incorrect: SCOTUS declared all laws against same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional.

Imagine the tables were flipped, homosexuality was the norm and many people felt that heterosexual marriage should be outlawed. It's fundamentally unfair to treat people that way.

I am very confused as to why people are still opposed to same sex marriage.

You know what I just said about right-wingers not believing in the 14th amendment? This right here is a perfect example.

Well, a bigot is by definition someone who is intolerantly devoted to their own beliefs. You want to ban something you don't like for no rational reason, refusing to tolerate the existence of something you don't like. There.

One would think that the Mike Huckabee supposed constitutional expertise would have him realize that pre 13th and 14th amendment, slaves were constitutionally less than a person, and it's in fact the same constitutional provision that brought them full person-hood by modification of supreme law that brought an end to miscegenation laws and is now is being principally applied to Same Sex partners seeking marriage.
Such heroic nonsense!

Well, it is certainly possible that you are, yes.
But perhaps you have a decent, non-bigoted reason to be against homosexuals being allowed to have the same fiscal and legal benefits as straight people.

Right-wingers don't believe in the 14th amendment cos it wasn't approved by the Confederate government. Everyone knows the winners write history and the losers write the laws.

The irony being of course that the Republicans are the ones who ratified it in the first place.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

Persecution of the "other".
We all are guilty of it to one degree or another. But when its as vocal as certain things we notice it more. I should say we all are guilty of having "others" to one degree or another, persecution was perhaps too strong an indictment.

Not a chance in hell. The local legislator(think devolved parliament) supports her.

Well, I don't look at this issue from a social justice prescriptive, the only thing that I argue that she is a governmental worker that refuses to do her job.

Hmm, I don't think so. Some on the left would defend her if she was a Muslim, because they are seen as an "oppressed minority group"

This can all be resolved very easily. Kim Davis could just be fired for being incapable of doing her job satisfactorily and I'm sure there are some evangelical employers out there with a job waiting for her, since she got media attention. If some people went out of their way to get Chik-Fil-A sandwiches for being anti-gay, they'll find something for Kim to do like give speeches at social conservatism events. Kim Davis could be the new Palin.

It's already been established that, as an elected official, she can't simply be fired. I do believe though some far right employers are ready to take her in open arms if/when her tenure as county clerk ends.
