We shouldn't sidetrack this any further, but several reporters have looked into this, and found that "sore loser" laws have never been successfully used to deny a Presidential candidate access to the ballot. There are several examples of this in history, John Anderson's 1980 run for the White House being the latest.
Fair enough; if the time comes, we'll see.
If we were to grant that the GOP can't stop Trump from running as an independent, and that he is still doing well when he decided to jump ship, I'm still not sure they'd want to keep him. In light of the current event, it would seem that they can either lose with him or lose without him. Since the RNC seems to want to try to drag the party away from racism and sexism, they might be willing to take the loss and try again in four years. But perhaps that's asking a bit much of my silly party.
