You'll be fine with just English, even in the various Lower East side neighborhoods (Chinatown, etc).

You should probably brush up on some of your Yiddish, however. A lot of it has worked its way into common speech in the New York City area (schlep, schmear, schmaltz, schmooze, and schmuck are the big ones)
