Chances are looking good that I will be moving to New York for Law school.
So NSGers from New York do tell me what is it like living in the state of New York?
What is the City by the same name?
Whats Ithaca like ?

Both.
Thus far two of my safety schools from there have accepted me.
And I also have some more highly ranked schools from there I am waiting to hear from.
And honestly I am tired of Texas(don't tell the Texans until I am safely out of the state) so if I end up at a regional law firm I would rather have a place like New York.

I have relatives in New York, though I live in Canada. The city itself is dirty and noisy. The housing is expensive and most people are very rude. I have never been to Ithaca, though upstate New York is very, very nice.

That's one of the law schools that invited me to apply, and waived application fees and deadlines for applying (they invited me to apply rather recently).
But an invitation really doesn't mean much, law schools raise their rankings by rejecting people or so I hear.

They invited me to apply last week, the invitation in of itself does not mean jack. But I have been accepted to my safety schools in the area as well. And honestly I would like a change of pace from Texas. Though I hear New york gun laws are a pain in the ass though.

ooh, Ithaca huh? I might actually be over that way for a bit next year for some research stuff.

Its really dark there, as in very few sunny days. Don't get too depressed and kill yourself.

I've lived in NY for most my life, and visited NYC for about a month or two. NYC is nice, expect a lot of Mexicans and Asians if you go to Brooklyn. Driving isn't as bad as people say it is, although its more hectic than anywhere else I've been, I viewed it like a fun game. Theres tons of interesting things to do, good "ethnic" restaurants.

New York has really high taxes, expect to pay out the ass for gas. Um, it can get a bit cold there, obviously... IIRC, liquor and wine can't be sold in grocery stores, so if you want liquor you have to make an extra stop.

Ithaca is a nice college town...very pretty, decent bars if you don't mind drinking with undergrads, pretty affordable.

NYC...it's nice for a weekend. You can easily blow a grand and have a sick time. It is, however, an incredibly dirty city, very expensive, somewhat arrogant, and (though this is more true for Long Island) somewhat rude...little things like not talking on your cell phone while ordering food at a counter, things like that.
