Fair to assume, from your first sentence, the movie was not very good?

Not so much that, but they use a theme from the Matrix to support their unrelated viewpoint.

For a thread about romance, the poll is missing the most important aspect: romance.

My partner, while still beautiful, smart, funny, and sexy, is above all else romantic. She loves me, which is, believe it or not, a really important factor in enjoying anything else about the relationship.

When I write poetry for her, it's always reciprocated with much intimacy and love. To write something like that, and just get a "thanks" would pretty much kill it.

And yes, although being physically intimate is enjoyable, it wouldn't mean anything to me if we weren't in love.

But to answer the OP:
the woman I'm in love with now.
15 (she's actually older than me), white, brunette, blue eyes, 5'6" or 5'7", cute freckles, beautiful body.
But that's just how she looks.
She's the most loving person I've met, and I put her before myself. She loves me, and that's all I need.

But that's just us.

Red-haired, Gaelic-speaking, likes dressing up but doesn't care too much about shopping for expensive clothes, likes art and history, wants kids, doesn't want said kids to be raised in a daycare, compassionate, honest, likes folk music, likes to travel, will let our kids be as independent as they need to be.

But that, of course, is not something I expect to fully reach. Ultimately, a good romantic partner is a girl who loves my weird side and whose weird side I love.

First of all, please stop being so condescending, calling me 'kid'. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm older than you: like someone said earlier on, most NS users seem to be around the ages of 20-25. You never know to whom you're talking on the internet.

Second of all, I don't think humans don't need romance anymore. Please don't try to pass my opinions off as 'heartbreak'. Love is a natural human instinct, made for the sole reason to reproduce and continue the species. Do we need this anymore? No. Reproduction can happen in other, more appropriate ways: IVF. 'Love' only exists because of natural selection. On top of this, as I already said, love causes numerous social problems. I could write an entire essay on this, but I'm not going to.

Please don't jump to conclusions.

Sorry about that interruption guys, back to the thread.

It isn't really valid to suggest that just because simething has its roots in our evolutionary history that it has no place in present day. Breathing also only exists because of natural selection. I do not suggest you try to live without it.

My ideal partner would be one who finds me to be her ideal.

Since that is unlikely to happen, maybe we could each settle for a generally favorable impression of each other?

I'm over 30 and have several kids. The only people I've seen who've made it beyond college with your mindset have been irredeemable. As such by assuming you're young I give you the benefit of the doubt.

Love fulfills people. It's deeply enmeshed in our humanity and sense of meaning. It underpins parent-child relationships in a way that is beyond value, and can do nearly as much between adults.

It's an immense emotional risk, and now with gender dynamics in society in flux, where once that risk was mainly upon women it is now mainly upon men, and there is resentment. MGTOW/red pill crap is the manifestation of that resentment, but it's a tantrum.

Society's pendulum will swing, individuals will grow and mature, and all of this will be moot with enough time and patience.

Indeed, as Lin Yutang once recounted in My Country and My People, page 43:

There was once a prime minister, Chang Kungni, who was much envied for his earthly blessedness of having nine generations living together under the same roof. Once the emperor, Tang Kaochung, asked him the secret of his success, and the minister asked for a brush and paper, on which he wrote a hundred times the character "patience" or "endurance."
