Hey, did you hear that former Klans-man, Senator Robert Byrd, says that some of the things the President is trying to do are un-Constitutional?

It couldnt just be because the Prez is black, could it?

So if I understand correctly, the point of this thread is to show that one homophobic nutbag is a memeber of the Democratic Party, and therefor the entire party is guilty by association?

Well, how about I play that game with the Republicans? You wouldn't want that now would you?

When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

The case was dismissed by the U.S. district court.[20][21] Phelps' law firm, staffed by himself and family members also represented non-white Kansans in discrimination actions against Kansas Power and Light, Southwestern Bell, and the Topeka City Attorney, and represented two female professors alleging discrimination in Kansas universities.[19]

In the 1980s Phelps received awards from the Greater Kansas City Chapter of Blacks in Government and the Bonner Springs branch of the NAACP for his work on behalf of black clients.[22]

If you note his background, especially the education side... it all makes sense. He was insane to begin with and when he was still a seminarian, before he became a civil rights activist, he was spouting the same things he is now. It goes to show that there are alot of people out there that may support equal rights for minorities (which begs the question of seminary choice) but are as homophobic as one can get. It may not make sense to many here but it is a sad reality.

The difference is that Democratic leaders do not listen to him.
We bitch about Robertson et al because the leadership of the Republican party listen to them and take their opinions very seriously. Robertson, as I recall, had a weekly telephone meeting with the previous president.

If it was Fred Phelps: Republican, this wouldn't even be a thread since it would fall under "Gee, No Shit Sherlock".

Well, yeah, some Republicans disagree with Robertson and Phelps and Falwell and all those crazy people.
But the leadership don't. The ones in charge don't. They very much agree. They listen to these people.

That's a huge difference, one that I think you're intentionally downplaying.
