When School Teachers Fail

Postby Tretskivucia » Thu Jan 28, 2010 11:31 pm

When have you seen a teacher fail at teaching by getting things wrong?

My history teacher got the route Hannibal took to italy wrong. I had to correct her :ugeek:

Too many to count. More often than not, the teachers read off textbooks, but the textbooks are wrong.

I never paid attention in class. That shows failure at teaching, not getting things wrong though. Just fail.

Yes, I've seen teachers get things wrong many times. I've also seen them adamantly stand by it, and I've seen others say "Huh...could you bring me a source that says that? I'm interested in who is correct".

Our teachers in my high school never enforced the dress code for females, but always flipped out like Flippy off Happy Tree Friends when a guy had his shirt untucked.

Sexism at its best. :palm:

Pretty much this. Here in Utah I got in a fight with a teacher who said Virginia was a Northern State.

Obviously they took the route from China. :ugeek:

Didn't you eve hear that you can get to anywhere from China? You see, it's pure logic. Everyone says that they are digging a hole to China. However, if everybody can dig a tunnel to China, then obviously anyone can get to Italy from China.

A millenia or two ago, when I was in high school I had to correct my science teacher about what caused the seasons. Only the fact that the entire class burst out in derisive laughter prevented me from being sent to the principal's office for being disrespectful.

It more or less is in a cultural sense of the word. Richmond isn't the confederate stronghold it once was, its a carpetbagger retreat now.

I had to present a full page of evidence to my history class, on why Japan did not want to invade Austria in World War Two.
Not Australia as I thought she meant Austria! The European Country, my history teacher was absolutely adamant that the Asian Japanese Empire wanted to invade the European not to mention already conquered Austria

Given my poor spelling, I always make at least ONE mistake on any worksheet I do..

My students love finding them and teasing me about it. ;)

I don't mind so much though because at least it gets them to actually pay attention to the bloody thing. :D

Hey, at least you have a good reason for your bad spelling. Mine is just..."I can't spell".

I never had a student call me out on it...instead, my professor who was observing me did (after class).

I did give wrong lecture information once...I confused two terms relating to Judaism when introducing Night. I swear, I heard my rabbi groan...I managed to realize my mistake just as the bell rang, and corrected it the next class. They were amazed that a teacher would admit to being wrong.

A typical british reaction to a scenario...

Back in the first year of high school (this is many years ago now), my Chemistry teacher Mr Haycock (yes, that is his real name) set up an experiment to mix two substances together (can't remember which ones though) to create carbon dioxide to put out a fire made from burning pieces of paper.

The substances mixed violently, but instead of the desired effect of the carbon dioxide putting out the fire, water sprayed everywhere instead.

I should be commenting on the aloofness of the British about now, but the only thing in my mind is "Haycock... Haycock..." :?
