They aren't insane.

They legitimately believe that they are animals in a human body, they are very much insane in the same way that any form of Schizophrenia would be. You can't claim that believing you are the Pharaoh or Jesus qualifies as insanity, but believing that you are an animal does not.

They are no more insane than religious people.

Probably because you're an animal.

Speaking technically, we're all animals in this thread. Except the one steam ship, that is.

Well, they dress up like them, and talk about having a wolf's spirit. So does Rob Stark.

I have no idea who Rob Stark is.

Animal as in non-human, not animal as in "under the classification Animalia". We're talking people who believe that they are wolves, bears, giraffes, dragons, fish, etc.

You're asking me to explain how I know gravity exists without saying "Objects fall down" as an answer. If someone falsely believes that they are an animal in a human body then it is obviously, obviously an indication of insanity, mental impairment, or a broken psyche.

Firstly, yes

Secondly, if you're trying to turn this around to "Under your definition believing in souls is a form of insanity too" that is not how souls work.

Give me one good reason why "otherkin" is not a mental disorder. Once you think you're not human, you are no longer part of human society. If you think you're an animal, go lock yourself in a zoo, or better yet, run into the savannahs and mingle with the other lions.

No, it isn't. The concept of the soul is that there is an immortal life-essence that represents human consciousness and dwells in the body. Someone who believes in souls doesn't actually believe that they are a soul, they believe that they are a human and that their actions will determine the future transference of the soul. Hindus believe that behavior determines what whether they will be reincarnated into a different caste, but they don't believe that they functionally are a soul. Christians believe that behavior determines whether their soul will be sent to heaven or hell, but they don't believe that they functionally are a soul. The soul isn't a being in and of itself, it's a metaphysical reflection of humanity, which separates it from, say, believing that you are a wolf in a human body. Otherkin aren't just people who believe in spirit-animals, they believe that they are animals, but in human bodies.

That's BS. People literally believe they are the soul. The soul is their consciousness.
