People read LOTR on drugs too often. :p

No, but in all seriousness, people need to just look at themselves in the mirror and say "How far have I just gone?" Sometimes we just need to reel ourselves out from the swell.

I mean just think about it for a second. If you think you're Napoleon, you're insane. If you think you're a dragon, you're not? There are more real Napoleons than real dragons. (there was 1 Napoleon, 0 dragons)
You know what? I wish I could be a viking. Have big curly hair and a beard, a norse axe, mead and some cosmic boar meat. I sometimes think being Smaug would be cool. That does not mean I am those things or should view myself as those things. All this Otherkin shit does is that it makes a lot of rational people question the validity of transgenderism. I mean I support the rights of transgenders, but I think that somebody who identifies as another specie needs mental help to be honest. If you are "Otherkin," please look for help. I'm serious, it is not healthy for the mind. :(

I'm suspicious of otherkin because they're never something shitty. It's always something in the vein of "I'm a dragon", "I'm a wolf." It's never anything like a dung beetle or a skunk. That makes me think it's just people wanting to feel special.

I'm sure there may be at least some of them that suffer from mental illness, but I think the problem is more "Special Snowflake" Syndrome than anything.

These are people obsessed with being super-unique and special because that's the only way to escape the reality that they're just as mundane as the people they're trying to differentiate from.

You are a collection of cells surrounding a central brain mass created from millions of years of evolution, just like everyone else. Deal with it.

If you don't like what I'm saying, ask me whether I actually believe it. I may not, and may simply be playing devil's advocate because I believe that a legitimate argument is being ignored. No, it's not "colorful language". These are people who legitimately believe that they are those animals, who dress up as them and claim that they have "species dysphoria" and that they are another species of animal trapped in a human body.

Well, they dress up like them, and talk about having a wolf's spirit. So does Rob Stark.

Their internal perception may be dysfunctional, though the same can be said for pretty much anyone who believes in things that we do not or identifies in a way that in not "normal". External perception (Hearing, sight, smell, etc.) is unimpaired in these individuals, as are their behavior and social interaction.

They legitimately believe that they are animals in a human body, they are very much insane in the same way that any form of Schizophrenia would be. You can't claim that believing you are the Pharaoh or Jesus qualifies as insanity, but believing that you are an animal does not.

I'm saying I would be more willing to buy it if there was variation. If people legitimately believed themselves to be the wrong species, then they wouldn't always be cool animals like big cats or mythical creatures. Some of them would be warthogs or slow lorises or any number of boring animals. Most would be invertebrates, statistically speaking.

If being otherkin did anything other than make people cool (for a very group-specific value of "cool"), I might be willing to believe it. But it doesn't, so I don't.

Not a true song of ice and fire fan then, I see. The whole stark family consists of wargs, who take over the bodies of their pet direwolves multiple times over the course of the series.
